About the Role

Our team is growing and we are looking for an experienced construction or commercial real estate (CRE) professional with strong insurance compliance knowledge to take on a leadership-track role. This position will blend construction risk oversight with insurance review execution.

The role can evolve Into a Head of Construction position with increased responsibilities in the Insurance Operations team. Initial responsibilities will include deepening expertise in HUD construction application processes, and applying construction knowledge to enhance review accuracy and compliance efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Expertise & Growth

  • Develop deep familiarity with HUD’s construction risk and insurance application requirements.
  • Serve as a construction subject matter resource across internal teams.
  • Participate in construction-specific escalations and risk assessments for multifamily developments.

Insurance Review Execution

  • Review and analyze incoming insurance documents (policies, certificates, endorsements) for GSE/HUD compliance.
  • Extract and input critical data into Advocate’s platform.
  • Identify and document any insurance gaps or deficiencies related to property development or construction projects.

Borrower & Lender Communication

  • Serve as a client-facing contact for borrowers and lenders.
  • Resolve documentation issues and coverage discrepancies professionally and efficiently.
  • Translate complex risk requirements into actionable guidance for construction teams and clients.

Escalation & Subject Matter Expertise

  • Escalate complex insurance or construction risk items to senior stakeholders with clear documentation.
  • Stay current on multifamily lending construction and insurance trends.
  • Draft and submit construction-related insurance waivers and requests.

Product-Driven Review Efficiency

  • Use Advocate’s compliance platform to optimize accuracy and turnaround time.
  • Provide structured feedback to inform platform enhancements and process automation.

Project Participation

  • Contribute to construction and insurance-related internal initiatives.
  • Collaborate on cross-functional projects that align construction risk with compliance workflows.

Qualifications

Required

  • 4+ years of experience in CRE construction risk management, insurance compliance, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of HUD and/or GSE construction and insurance requirements.
  • Strong grasp of commercial insurance, including property, liability, flood, and professional liability.
  • Familiarity with construction risk concepts, such as draw schedules, retainage, bonding, and wrap-up programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in high-pressure or client-facing scenarios.
  • High attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe; comfortable with workflow systems.
  • Hybrid role based in NYC, with two in-office days weekly.

Preferred

  • Experience working with agency lenders, servicers, or third-party construction/insurance reviewers.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems, compliance platforms, or automation tools.
  • Exposure to multi-loan pipelines or SLA-driven environments.
  • Understanding of lender insurance requirements, including differences between GSE and HUD standards.
