Integration Solutions Architect (Accounting Integrations)

Location: Remote (US)
Department: Professional Services – Integrations
Title: Integration Solutions Architect (ISA)

About BuildOps

BuildOps is a modern, all-in-one operational platform built specifically for commercial contractors. We connect field operations, projects, and back-office functions to create a single source of truth for the business, with deep integrations into customers’ accounting systems.

Role Overview

The Integration Solutions Architect (ISA) ensures seamless financial and data integrations between BuildOps and customers’ accounting systems, with a focus on accuracy, data integrity, and long‑term scalability. You will own accounting integration discovery, design, configuration, testing, and validation, serving as the bridge between Implementation, Product/Engineering, and customers’ finance teams.

This role is ideal for someone with controller-level accounting expertise who loves solving complex integration problems, partnering consultatively with customers, and influencing stakeholders toward best practices.

What You’ll Do

Lead Accounting & Integration Discovery

  • Lead structured discovery sessions with customer finance and accounting teams to understand GL structure, entities, dimensions/classes, and reporting needs.
  • Document current-state accounting setups and integration workflows, including limitations, dependencies, and custom mapping requirements.
  • Align closely with Solutions Architects and Data Analysts on workflow touchpoints and data requirements across implementation.

Design & Configure Accounting Integrations

  • Define field mappings, sync direction, and integration logic between BuildOps and accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, Vista, Spectrum).
  • Establish configuration standards for GL accounts, entities/departments, classes/dimensions, and tax rules within BuildOps and the connected ERP.
  • Configure and validate integrations in collaboration with Implementation Managers and customers’ accounting teams.

Test, Validate, and Troubleshoot

  • Build and execute integration test plans for AP (bills/expenses), AR (invoices/credits), POs, payments, and related workflows.
  • Reconcile data between BuildOps and the accounting system, ensuring accurate end‑to‑end financial results prior to go‑live.
  • Partner with Data Analysts to validate import/export data and resolve discrepancies, documenting root causes and resolutions.

Consult, Influence, and Advocate Best Practices

  • Act as the trusted integration advisor to customers, recommending BuildOps and accounting best practices that support their business today and set them up for future scalability.
  • Balance empathy for customer constraints with clear guidance on standards, data hygiene, and process changes needed for a stable integration.
  • Develop standardized recommendations and playbooks for recurring integration issues and patterns to drive consistency across accounts.

Collaborate Across Product and Customer Teams

  • Document integration gaps, product limitations, and bugs; propose and escalate solutions to Product and Engineering as needed.
  • Provide clear integration documentation and handoffs to Customer Success and Support for post‑go‑live stability.

Key Outcomes

Success in this role looks like:

  • Successful end‑to‑end sync validation before go‑live
  • Accurate financial reconciliation between BuildOps and the accounting system
  • Minimal post‑go‑live integration issues
  • Clear, reusable documentation and high satisfaction from both customers and internal teams

Who You Are

Experience & Knowledge

  • Controller-level accounting background strongly preferred (former Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leader).
  • Deep understanding of AP, AR, POs, jobs/projects, entities/locations, and revenue recognition concepts.
  • Hands‑on experience with at least one mid‑market accounting platform (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Viewpoint Vista, Spectrum); experience across multiple is a plus.
  • Prior experience designing, supporting, or owning system integrations between operational and financial platforms (iPaaS, custom integrations, or native connectors).
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting data structures (e.g., imports/exports, mapping tables, reconciliation reports).

Core Traits & Working Style

We’re looking for someone who embodies the following:

  1. Curious – Naturally digs into how a customer’s business and accounting work, asking “why” and “what if” until the picture is clear.
  2. Tenacious – Will not drop a complex integration or reconciliation issue until it’s understood, resolved, and documented.
  3. Confident – Comfortable leading conversations with Controllers/CFOs and pushing back respectfully when a requested approach introduces risk.
  4. Influential – Able to align diverse stakeholders (operations, finance, IT, leadership) around a clear integration strategy and best practices.
  5. Self‑motivated – Operates with a high degree of ownership; proactively identifies risks, patterns, and opportunities without waiting for direction.

Customer Approach

  • Consultative and empathetic: You listen first, understand the customer’s constraints and goals, and reflect their perspective back clearly.
  • Best‑practices driven: You still advocate firmly for BuildOps standards and scalable designs, even when it requires change management on the customer side.
  • Future‑oriented: You design integrations for where the customer is going, not just where they are today—anticipating growth, new entities, and evolving reporting needs.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial operations, including significant exposure to accounting systems/ERPs.
  • 2+ years working with systems integrations, implementation, or technical consulting in a SaaS/ERP or similar environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and comfort working with structured data (CSVs, mapping templates, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate between accounting, operational, and technical stakeholders.

Preferred

  • Direct experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accountant responsible for system configuration or integrations.
  • Hands‑on experience integrating field service, construction, or project‑based operational platforms with accounting systems.
  • Familiarity with APIs, middleware, or iPaaS tools (e.g., Workato, Boomi, Celigo, Mulesoft) is a plus; deep engineering background is not required.

Compensation

  • Raleigh / Remote (US): $98,000 – $122,000 base
  • Los Angeles hub: $102,000 – $128,000 base
  • Equity
  • Bonus
