About Pine

At Pine, we’re on a mission to completely reimagine the home financing experience for Canadians. For too long, getting a mortgage has been complicated, slow, and confusing. We believe it doesn’t have to be that way. That’s why we’re building smarter, faster, and more transparent solutions that put people first and make one of life’s biggest financial decisions simpler, clearer, and more empowering.

With the backing of top-tier venture capital firms and recognition as a Top Startup in Canada by LinkedIn, Pine is growing at an incredible pace. Our team is fueled by innovation, collaboration, and a shared passion for transforming the way Canadians buy and finance their homes.

About the Role

As a Senior Mortgage Underwriter at Pine, you’ll play a critical role in assessing and analyzing mortgage applications to ensure they meet all regulatory, insurer, and policy requirements. You’ll be responsible for verifying and validating client information and documentation, applying sound due diligence, and ensuring compliance with both internal guidelines and external regulations.

You’ll work closely with our fulfilment team, advisors, and partners to facilitate a seamless approval process, while reporting to the Head of Underwriting.

  • Mortgage Underwriting: Review and underwrite mortgage applications daily, ensuring decisions are made within Pine’s service level expectations.

  • Document Verification: Collect, review, and validate all required client documents with a strong emphasis on anti-money laundering (AML) requirements, income verification, and down payment validation.

  • Risk & Compliance: Apply thorough due diligence, escalating inaccuracies, incomplete items, or potential risks to the Head of Underwriting for sign-off. Maintain strong compliance results for audit requirements.

  • Collaboration: Partner with Pine’s Head of Underwriting, Lead Underwriters, Advisors, and Operations team to resolve documentation issues, manage pipelines, and ensure transactions are completed efficiently.

  • Quality Assurance: Monitor changes to deals, update files accordingly, and provide timely responses to Quality Assurance and Compliance review queries.

  • Client & Advisor Support: Provide the highest level of internal and external customer service, addressing Advisor inquiries with accuracy and professionalism.

  • Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as a point of guidance for junior underwriters, helping them navigate complex files and improve decision-making skills.

We’re Excited About You Because You Have…

  • 5+ years of experience in mortgage underwriting (with exposure to complex files preferred).

  • Strong knowledge of mortgage default insurers’ lending programs and requirements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and thrive under pressure.
