Itron is innovating new ways for utilities and cities to manage energy and water. We create a more resourceful world to protect essential resources for today and tomorrow. Join us.

We are seeking a motivated, growth‑oriented Product Management Specialist to support the development, commercialization, and lifecycle management of our North American water metering portfolio, with a strong focus on solid‑state meters and smart metering technologies.

This role is ideal for individuals looking to grow into a full Product Manager role within 2–3 years through hands‑on experience, cross‑functional collaboration, and mentorship from senior product leaders. You will join an internationally distributed Product Management team and report directly to a Senior Product Manager.

In this role, you will build deep product expertise to authentically support internal teams—such as Sales, Marketing, Operations, Engineering, and Quality—as well as external customers and channel partners. You will participate in customer engagements, product demonstrations, and industry events while supporting the collection of valuable market and customer insights.

You will also support competitive evaluations, business case development, and the creation of customer‑centric value propositions. This position requires agility, accountability, and an innovative mindset as you contribute to product launches, lifecycle management, financial analysis, and the execution of annual marketing plans.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong understanding of the water metering and smart metering portfolio; prepare clear presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support Sales during customer meetings, product demonstrations, and technical discussions, ensuring an authentic, customer‑centric experience.

  • Participate in industry trade shows and conferences to collect market and competitive insights.

  • Collaborate with Marketing to support product launch planning and development of collateral, tools, and enablement materials.

  • Review customer specifications; support bid and tender responses; assess product compliance; and identify gaps or development needs driven by market, regulatory, or technical requirements.

  • Evaluate competitive offerings and assist in shaping business cases, value propositions, and pricing inputs.

  • Manage internal product databases, including part creation, pricing support, and financial data analysis with accuracy and accountability.

  • Participate in cross‑functional teams—Engineering, Operations, Quality, Sales—to resolve day‑to‑day product lifecycle issues in an agile and collaborative way.

  • Monitor product inquiries and ensure timely, customer‑focused resolution.

  • Contribute to the execution of annual marketing plans and achievement of departmental KPIs.

  • Support forecasting, budgeting, and portfolio financial performance as responsibilities expand.

  • Participate in the development of market requirement documents, monetization models, and product management processes as you grow into the role.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in product support, applications engineering, utilities, IoT, or a related technical/commercial field.

  • Foundational understanding of IoT and communications technologies (e.g., RF, cellular, smart metering ecosystems).

  • Ability to analyze market and customer data to support customer‑centric product decisions.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage authentically across multi‑disciplinary and international teams.

  • Demonstrated agility in managing multiple tasks and commitments in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Ability to interpret customer specifications and support technical reviews.

  • Comfort with financial analysis and use of internal data systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field—or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience with water metering, utilities, or related infrastructure sectors.

  • Exposure to competitive analysis, market evaluation, or business case development.

  • Familiarity with lifecycle management processes and cross‑functional product development.

  • Experience supporting or participating in product launch activities.

  • Understanding of regulatory or compliance requirements affecting utility and energy technology solutions.

  • Travel expectations 10%-30%, also occasionally internationally
