Lead Network Engineer
Younity builds and operates the networks that deliver internet to every unit and common area in the residential buildings we serve. We go further, running the low-voltage and IT systems that make those buildings smart: CCTV, intercom and access control, and connected devices.
We're hiring a Lead Network Engineer in NYC to be the technical anchor of our field and network operations. This is a deeply hands-on role: you'll design, deploy, and troubleshoot production networks in live buildings, and you'll set the standards the rest of the team builds to. It's also a leadership track: as the team grows, the goal is for you to grow into leading it. If you've run networks for an ISP, or delivered and supported infrastructure for an MSP serving mid-size to large clients, this role was built for you.
Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you'll work alongside a strong team of network engineers to bring the next generation of smart, connected buildings online.
What you'll do
- Design, configure, and deploy our network and building-systems platform in live production environments
- Stand up and integrate building IT systems (CCTV, intercom, access control, and smart devices) alongside the core network
- Own network stability and performance: diagnose and resolve issues, bugs, and outages fast
- Plan and manage upgrades: test, verify, and approve new deployments before they go live
- Harden the resilience of our systems, architecture, and design standards
- Support expansion into new buildings, including on-site due diligence and site surveys
- Push network logic and routine fixes into automation. We're an automation-first shop for monitoring, diagnostics, and remediation, and your standards will feed directly into it.
- Serve as the top technical escalation point for the Support team
- Mentor and guide other engineers today, with the opportunity to grow into leading the team as it scales
How we work
We're an ISP and managed-services company. Residents and building customers depend on us around the clock, so our operating principles are practical:
- Ownership. You own the outcome, not only the task assigned to you, and stay engaged until the customer-impacting issue is resolved
- Investigate before escalating. Gather evidence, test assumptions, and bring a working theory and clear next steps
- Customer context matters. A technically correct answer is only useful when it solves the resident's, property manager's, or building operator's actual problem
- Calm urgency. Incidents require speed, structure, communication, and sound judgment, not panic
- Practical engineering. We value reliable, supportable solutions over unnecessary complexity
- Shared coverage. Our services run around the clock, so you'll join a shared on-call rotation and support urgent incidents, after-hours maintenance, and customer-impacting events when needed
What we're looking for
- 4+ years as a network engineer, with experience in the U.S. market, ideally at an ISP or an MSP serving mid-size to large clients
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered
- Hands-on expertise in network design and deployment: IP addressing hierarchy, routing and switching, and network security
- A proven track record running mission-critical, production-grade environments
- Strong wireless experience: deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment
- A creative, independent problem-solver who stays calm under pressure
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with a genuine service- and customer-first mindset
- Reliable, curious, and eager to keep learning
- Genuinely willing to be part of 24/7 incident response: nights and weekends when a crisis or planned maintenance calls for it. This is an ISP.
- Based in the Greater NYC area and able to work from our office
- Authorized to work in the U.S. (we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa now or in the future)
Nice to have
- Exposure to low-voltage / building systems (CCTV, intercom, access control, IoT)
- Scripting, automation, and cloud services
Compensation & benefits
- Anticipated base salary of $125,000–$140,000, depending on skills and experience
- 401(k)
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Generous paid time off
- Primarily in-office, with some flexibility for remote work
